Getting School Ready

Starting school is an exciting milestone in every child’s life. At Warren Dell Primary School, we want every child to begin their Reception journey feeling happy, confident, and ready to learn.

Children develop at their own pace, and every family’s journey is unique. There are, however, key skills that can help children settle into school life more smoothly — such as being able to dress themselves, use the toilet independently, share and take turns, and talk about their thoughts and feelings.

Getting ready for school isn’t about formal learning before Reception; it’s about building your child’s independence, curiosity, and confidence through play, conversation, and daily routines at home.

We’ve put together some ideas, activities, and links to help you support your child as they prepare for this important next step. Working together, we can make sure your child’s start at school is a positive and enjoyable experience.
