HOW WILL THE SCHOOL PREPARE AND SUPPORT MY CHILD TO JOIN THE SCHOOL, TRANSFER TO A NEW SCHOOL OR THE NEXT STAGE OF EDUCATION AND LIFE?

To support all children with transition to the next year in Warren Dell we offer: 

 

  • Class swap day where children (Pre-school- Yr5) get the chance to spend the morning in their new class with their new teaching staff.
  • If children are moving playgrounds (Reception-Year 1, Yea r2 – Year 3), during the Summer Term children will be given the opportunity to use their new playground when it is quieter and other years are not there.  
  • Nursery children are offered nursery lunch club to support with the move to full time education.
  • ‘All about me pages’ are handed over to new teachers
  • Teachers have ‘hand-over’ meetings where they will discuss the individual needs of ALL children with their future teacher to ensure as smooth a transition as possible.

 

To support some children with transition to the next year in Warren Dell we offer:

 

  • ‘Transition booklets’ -These have pictures of their new learning environments and teachers. These booklets are shared with children and parents by staff and are sent home for the children to keep.
  • Extra time in their new classes.
  • Extra time exploring new playgrounds.
  • Social stories to prepare children for the change.
  • Sessions withThrive Practioner to discuss worries.
  • A postcard home over the summer holidays from their new teacher.

 

Children moving to a new school mid-year:

 

  • If a child is on the SEND register the future SENCo is contacted and details of a child’s SEN communicated. 
  • If needed social stories are shared to prepare children for the change.
  • Sessions with Thrive Practitioner to discuss worries.

 

Children leaving Warren Dell in Yr6 for secondary school:

 

  • If a child is on the SEND register the future SENCo is contacted and details of a child’s SEN communicated. Future SENCos are invited to attend the last target review meeting.
  • We arrange extra transition days to all secondary schools where the children visit their new school with their current teaching staff and travel on public transport.
  • Chessbrook transition group.
  • Children’s ‘All about me’ pages are passed to new schools. 
  • Social stories may be used to prepare children for the change.
  • Sessions with Thrive Practitioner to discuss worries.

 

Support for children joining Warren Dell during the school mid-year will be individualised to meet the needs of the child. This may include:

 

  • Mid-week start day
  • Extra tours of school
  • Extra support for parents from our parent support worker.
  • Extra support for children from our pastoral team.   
  • 'Buddy' support from a member of their class and/or our Junior Leadership team
