Religious Education
R.E at Warren Dell Primary School
Exploring different religions, places of worship and festivals is at the heart of our Curriculum. Children are exposed to a plethora of religions throughout their time at Warren Dell Primary school including but not limited to Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism. They also learn about Humanism. Each unit of work begins with an inquiry question, which children regularly revisit to make connections in their learning. We have also recently started using retrieval questions to support children with reflecting on their prior knowledge and embedding their learning. The children visit local places of worship linked to the religions they are learning about, and this provides our students with real life experiences of the religions they are studying.
Implementation
Jigsaw R.E consists of six half-term units of work (Puzzles), each containing six lessons (Pieces) each academic year. Each year group focus on Christianity and one other religion (with years 3 and 6 covering humanism in addition to Christianity and another religion) over the year.
Impact
Assessment in Jigsaw is both formative and summative. There are two clear learning objectives for each lesson which allow the teacher to be mindful of the assessment elements within that session that can formatively help teachers pitch and plan subsequent lessons, and activities are included in each lesson.
Intent
Our intent is to teach the children two learning intentions each lesson that support them with learning from religion and about religion.
